Investing in Web3

I’ve been “investing” in web3 for over a year now.

I say “investing”, because I’m not really sure if 1) if it really counts as investing and 2) if all of my success so far is purely luck and just being at the right moment at the right time.

At the beginning, I considered this almost like a job. Something that I would check pretty much 24/7 and know when to buy or mint a project and then decide when to sell it. Along the way, I would try to scoop up projects that I really loved and keep them for a long time.

A year later, I don’t have the same enjoyment nor the time and nor the energy to do it. I got out of this amazing alpha group, not because I didn’t think it was worth it, just because I realized I really wasn’t interested in just flipping jpegs for a living.

It’s funny because a year ago, I had the same realization: What’s fun about web3 is the relationships that you can make. Yes, it’s good to take profit when you can, but what’s even more important than the $ is the people that you meet thanks to these jpegs.

This also means that sometimes, trying to time the market is not actually the best move to do. And it’s way better (again for long-term) to think about the long-term investments you want to make vs how can you gain X number of profit as much as possible.

Now, does that mean you should not think about profiting? I think it depends, but because we’re so early in the game, I’d rather over-capitalize on relationships over making a quick buck.
