40,000 Hours

When I started my newsletter a few years ago, the best thing I’ve done is join a “newsletter mastermind” where every week, I would meetup with 5-6 other newsletter writes and we would just talk about how our newsletter is going, experiments that we’re trying and what’s going well/not well. This allowed us to combine our efforts and learn “faster” if we were just doing these experiments alone.

Mr. Beast admitted he did something similar for his YouTube channel, but in a very Mr. Beast way. He also formed a group with 4-5 other YouTubers, but they would meet every single day to talk about what they learned about YouTube. And obviously, the only thing they did was YouTube.

So after 5 years together, not only were they experts in understand YouTube and its algorithm, they probably spent 40,000 hours in total obsessing over YouTube.

And you know how you need around 10,000 hours to master a subject? Well, Mr. Beast and his friends mastered YouTube in 5 years. Not surprising that he’s the most followed YouTuber, right?

As I’m going to start my newsletter, this is what I’m thinking about. How can I find other 5-6 like-minded people so that we can all push each other and learn from each other.

The first step though? Start releasing my newsletter to prove that I belong.
